Hi, I’m Lesley Smitheringle

I’m a professional artist & qualified art teacher who runs extra-curricular art classes to children in my home studio in the Redlands are of Queensland, Australia

I will be your child’s teacher and I look forward to unleashing all of that creativity.

I was a fully registered teacher until I retired from teaching in High Schools. I’m now the holder of a Blue card. As well as teaching Middle and High School students I also have two years experience working in an OSHC [Outside School Hours Care] Centre where I ran art and craft activities for children from Prep to Year 6.

I’m originally from Scotland and like all artists, I’ve been obsessed with colour, paint, pencils and pens and the magic they create, since a very small child. This passion resulted in me being accepted into Glasgow School of Art and there were lots of tears of joy the day I opened THAT letter. After specialising in Printed Textiles and gaining a B.A. Honours Degree in Design, I decided that I wanted to be an art teacher and help young creatives along their art journey. One more year at Jordanhill College of Education in Scotland enabled me to become an art teacher at High School level.

After teaching for 10 happy years in a High School in Cumbernauld, in Scotland, I felt like a sea change and did a teacher exchange where I swapped homes and jobs with an Australian teacher for a Year. That year changed my life and resulted in me falling in love with the Country and calling Australia home. Now happily married to my Aussie husband Peter, for just over 25 years with our two cats who adopted us.

My Artistic Endeavours

As well as teaching extra-curricular art to children I do my own fine art which is illustration and surface pattern designs for licensing. I have also produced many adult colouring books and resources for teachers. Here are some works from my portfolio and places you can find me online.
