Winners of the 2013 Oz Wildlife Studio Xmas Card Design Competition

The wait is over and the judges have made their decision… The winners of this year’s Christmas Card Design Competition run by Oz Wildlife Studio are –

1st Prize

Catalina Meldrum, age 11 from Queensland

Christmas Card Design by Catalina

The judges loved the Christmas spirit portrayed in this design and the hand of friendship around the Christmas tree of Aussie animals, snowmen, angels and elves. This design is so cleverly put together with the sulphur-crested cockatoos flying overhead, holding the banner and the aerial view over the natural forest and houses in the village decorated at Christmastime. Not to mention the expertise Catalina has shown in using the coloured pencils with incredible detail. This design has it all!

Congratulations Catalina!

2nd Prize

Nicholas van den Berg, age 7 from Queensland

Christmas Card Design Winner Nicholas Ven den Berg

“Christmas Express”

The judges loved this Christmas Express train being driven by Santa through the sleepy village at Christmastime who is wishing the residents  “A Merry Christmas”. This traditional European wintry setting reminded the judges of  snowy villages with chalets in Austria or Switzerland. Incredible detail and skill for such a young artist. The white steam billowing out and obscuring parts of the houses is particularly clever.

Congratulations Nicholas!

3rd Prize

Emma Kurban, age 10 from Victoria

2013 Oz Wildlife Studio Xmas Card Design Winners

“Surfing Santa”

The judges loved this trendy Santa with short-sleeved suit surfing the waves in the blistering heat and Emma offers us an Australian view of Christmastime with the reindeer cooling down in the ocean and splashing each other playfully in the water as Santa surfs nearby.  A clever, humourous, creative and beautifully drawn design by last year’s winner of the competition.

Charlotte Thomas, age 10 from Victoria

2013 Oz Wildlife Studio Xmas Card Design Winners

“Christmas Morning”

The judges loved the sense of family in this design which portrays the excitement of opening up and enjoying the presents together as a family on Christmas morning. The detail of the Calendar on the wall and Christmas decorations is wonderful in this really sweet design.

Well done Charlotte!

Highly Commended

Ryan Stafford, age 8 from Queensland

2013 Oz Wildlife Studio Xmas Card Design Winners

The judges loved the humour and sense of fun in this Christmas card design. Again with an Australian slant, Santa is having too much fun surfing in the sun to be going about his Christmas duties. He’s keeping the presents cool under the shade of an umbrella. The sign is very funny which says “I’ll be back in 5, 10, 15 minutes”.

Well done Ryan!

The prizes for the Highly Commended will be announced shortly.

There were 30 designs submitted altogether this year in the competition and the judges found it even more difficult than last year to make their decisions from the wonderfully creative designs. A huge thank you to the children who entered their artworks into the competition, to the parents for getting them to Lesley on time and of course a humungous thank you to all of the Sponsors who I think you will agree have generously donated fantastic prizes. We have some very, very lucky children indeed who will shortly be receiving all of these goodies.
